Emersons’ Fiona to tackle the Three Peaks Challenge in aid of local young people’s cancer charity

Company news

Fiona Cormie, Customer Relations Executive at Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre, is joining forces with friends Nicola and Sarah Vines to tackle the Three Peaks Challenge in aid of the Neil Vines Trust, a local charity which supports young people with cancer.

The challenge involves climbing the highest mountain in England, Scotland and Wales in 24 hours.

Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre will match whatever Fiona raises.

Fiona Said: “I knew Neil Vines through my best friend Sarah and his story still astonishes me. He battled brain cancer for three years, taught himself to walk again and raised thousands of pounds to try and help other people like him, all while still undergoing treatment. Not only did he complete the equivalent of the three peaks on a stepper machine whilst undergoing chemotherapy (our inspiration), he also cycled the equivalent of John O'Groats to Land’s End on a static bike.

She added: “There are few people I know that haven't been affected in some way by cancer, and I know that this brilliant charity will make a huge difference. Neil and his family shared many happy weekends together during his treatment, and those where a charity was able to help out made them extra special. Tragically Neil is no longer with us, but it doesn't stop him being a huge inspiration to his family, his friends and anyone else who heard his story and I really hope that you are able to help me to support his charity to continue to help others.”

Pamela Mackie, Hospital Director at Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre, commented: “Fiona and her friends are to be commended for this fundraising effort, and we are delighted to be able to offer to match every penny that she raises for this wonderful charity.”

Fiona is raising money for the Neil Vines Trust via JustGiving, and donations can be made by visiting www.justgiving.com/fionacormie1.
