Award-winning health centre inviting people for free HIV test

Company news

THE team at the award-winning Junction Health Centre in Clapham is encouraging people to call in for a free HIV check as part of National HIV Testing Week (starting November 21).

The centre, at Clapham Junction Station, will be hosting the screening week for Public Health and it is hoped people most at risk of HIV will take the opportunity to take a test.

Keshlin Thangavalu, Service Manager at The Junction, said: “HIV testing improves early diagnosis and treatment of HIV and thus reduces onward transmission so we would encourage people most at risk of contracting HIV to use this week as an added incentive to have a test. Our team is very professional and friendly and the service in our multi-services centre is very discreet.”

National HIV Testing Week is organised by HIV Prevention England (HPE), a partnership of organisations drawn from the voluntary, public and private sectors and managed by Terrence Higgins Trust.

The Junction Health Centre, which is run on behalf of the local NHS by leading independent health and social care provider, Care UK, first opened its doors five years ago. The centre is open every day from 8am-8pm offering a registered GP practice and a walk-in centre which provides advice and treatment for general problems including minor illnesses, cuts and grazes, minor scalds and burns, strains and sprains, insect bites, ear and throat infections and other common ailments. The centre also offers a range of additional services, such as vaccinations and immunisations, contraception services, cervical screening, diabetes and asthma clinics and smoking cessation clinics.

Last year, the team at The Junction beat off competition from across the country to be voted Clinical Team of the Year: Sexual Health in the 2014 General Practice Awards, while healthcare assistant, Tinu Oluwatoyin, was named sexual health practitioner of the year in the UK Sexual Health Awards.
