Home manager takes to the helm of new Kingston Vale care home

Home news

Care UK has announced the appointment of a home manager at its new state-of-the-art Sherwood Grange care home on Robin Hood Lane in Kingston Vale, which has been designed to provide residential care for 59 older people.

With the first residents set to move-in in May, and new care home on track to create to up to 80 jobs, Rick Mayne from January has taken to the helm of Sherwood Grange with responsibility for its day-to-day running.

Rick brings a wealth of relevant experience to his new role, having worked in the care sector for over 25 years.  Rick cites his involvement in a working group which helped the Department of Health develop the creation of the National Dementia Strategy as a career highlight.  In a previous role he also helped produce a 20 minute short film on how those living with dementia can contribute to the creative arts, which went on to be shown at the annual National Dementia Congress.

Rick not only has NQV qualifications in Social Care and Care Management, he is also an NQV assessor and verifier.  Outside of work, Rick is a keen traveller and enjoys journeys in his VW Campervan.

Speaking about his new position, Rick said: “I am delighted to have been appointed home manager at Sherwood Grange and I am excited to play a part in the commissioning of the new home as we head towards our opening in May.  I intend to make the most of this rare opportunity to be part of a team from such an early stage, as this will enable me to deliver even higher standards.

“I strongly believe our residents should be the focus of the home and at the centre of everything we do – Sherwood Grange will be their home and the Care UK team will be guests within it.  I will be leading by example to ensure residents lead active and fulfilling lives, and that they continue to be supported to enjoy the lifestyles they once had.  I am looking forward to getting to know them and their families.”

Michelle Sampang, regional director for Care UK, added: “Sherwood Grange represents a major investment for Care UK and, as we continue to generate employment opportunities in and around the area, we are very pleased to announce the appointment of Rick Mayne as home manager.

“Recruited on the basis of his professionalism, experience, skills and track record, Rick has an evident enthusiasm for providing the highest standards of care, and I am sure he will be an inspiration to those working alongside him at Sherwood Grange.”

The new three-storey Sherwood Grange care home will feature 59-ensuite bedrooms and will provide full time residential care, specialist dementia care, nursing, and short term respite care.

Designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives while also promoting independence, the care home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities and will include its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.
