Mill Lodge care home wins seal of approval from national care watchdog

Company news

Care UK’s Mill Lodge care home in Bradford, West Yorkshire has been given the seal of approval by a national care watchdog.

At a visit by the Care Quality Commission in March, examining the home against a number of key areas such as safe, effective, caring and responsive, inspectors were happy to award the home an overall good rating.

During their visit to the home, which provides specialist care for older people, the inspectors talked informally to the team and examined the home’s administrative systems and processes.

Home Manager Karen Scaife said: “I am delighted that we reached the high standard set out by the Government and CQC and I was even more delighted that the inspectors highlighted how the team works to respect people's dignity and independence.”

The inspectors noted that staff were friendly and engaged with residents in conversation as well as completing care tasks. People made the following comments to them, "They really look after you and care for you" and "The staff are very helpful."

Inspectors also commented that relatives praised the staff and the care provided. One relative said "I can't speak highly enough of this place, everything's done here. We wouldn't want mum to be anywhere else, she loves it here, the people and place are great. The staff are very good." Another relative said "I can't fault this place." Another relative said, "(You) won't beat it. Staff are good, food is good. Terrific nurses, always helpful. Makes for friendly atmosphere." One relative praised the kindness of the staff towards themselves and said, "The staff are very good with me and really caring."

Karen said: “Everyone at Mill Lodge, including the kitchen, domestic and maintenance teams, strives to ensure that we create genuinely individual care for each resident.
“To do that, we ensure we get to know each person, their history and their interests, so that we can tailor each care plan to maintain their independence, life skills and sense of wellbeing.”
