Birchwood care home invites people in Newbury to celebrate Care Home Open Day

Care UK’s Birchwood care home in Newbury is inviting local people to visit the home on Birchwood Road on Friday 17th June to join in its celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

From 11am until 4pm, the team at Birchwood will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event. The day is in celebration of Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities. 

The theme of this year’s event at Birchwood is a carnival fiesta, inspired by the Rio 2016 Olympics.  The fun-filled event will include ‘Armchair Olympic Games’ and tennis; and visitors can also try their luck on the raffle.  Live music from an Elvis impersonator will help to get everyone in the party spirit, and there will also be a tempting barbeque.  

Cliff Hutchings, home manager at Birchwood, said: “Care Home Open Day is about connecting people and enriching the lives of residents through building lasting relationships with the local community across the generations.  

“Opening our doors is also a great opportunity to show what life is really like in a modern care home; and we hope to change any preconceptions people might have while also showing everything Birchwood has to offer. 

“We have got a fun day of activities planned and are really looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Friday 17th June and welcoming the people of Newbury to be a part of it.” 

Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Birchwood will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Eating as we Age.  The latest in a series of free guides for family carers, Eating as we age is packed with hints and tips for keeping healthy and hydrated in older age.  The guide can also be downloaded free at www.careuk.com/eat
