Team behind £6.5 million Ferndown care home celebrates ‘topping out’

One of the UK’s leading independent care home providers, Care UK, has moved a step closer to delivering a new care home in Ferndown, with a ‘topping out’ ceremony held on site to mark the latest construction milestone in the £6.5million building project.

The Mayor of Ferndown, Councillor Mike Parkes, joined with the team from Care UK and representatives from developer and construction partner, Pennyfarthing Homes, to place the final tile on the roof of the new Ferndown Manor care home which is situated at 110 Golf Links Road.

The project is on track to create up to 120 jobs when the care home is fully commissioned and welcomes its first residents in January 2017.

Gary Renton, construction project manager for Care UK, said: “As the latest addition to a growing portfolio of residential care homes, this new development represents a major investment for Care UK.  When complete, the three-storey, purpose-built care home will boost the provision of quality residential care for up to 75 older people, as well as creating jobs for local people.

“We take a great pride in the build quality, layout and design of each individual care home – not least because these are all very important factors which can greatly impact the everyday experiences of those living in a care environment. 

“As work continues apace in Ferndown, Care UK’s vison for the home is well on the way to being realised; and we wanted to take the opportunity to acknowledge progress and celebrate the topping out with our construction partners and other stakeholders.”

Andy Follett, construction manager at New Milton based Pennyfarthing Homes, added: “As regional developers, this is the first care home project Pennyfarthing Homes have embarked upon and we could not have asked for a more cohesive approach from Care UK.

“It has been a great pleasure working with Gary Renton to provide specific requirements that are not usually found within residential building projects, and our team looks forward to delivering an excellent quality building that will welcome many residents for years to come.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives while promoting independence, the new care home in Ferndown will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities.  

The layout of the building will facilitate the creation of close knit communities and will be configured into a series of individual suites with a dedicated lounge/ dining room.  Each bedroom will have an en-suite wet room, together with a flat-screen television, adjustable profile bed, and a 24-hour nurse call system.
