Both Jessica and Joan turned 100 years ‘young’ on Friday 1st July and were joined by family, friends and residents for a party hosted by the team at the care home on Beacon Road.
Highlights throughout the day included a personal birthday card from The Queen for each of the ladies, and a cake which had been specially baked by Heather View’s head chef, Zoe Higgins.
Adding to the celebrations, 1940s harmony duo, The Victory V’s, also visited the care home to give a rousing performance of classics from the era which got everyone up dancing.
Both Joan and Jessica have lived at Heather View for three years having celebrated a number of milestone birthdays in their time there.
Trish Banks, home manager at Heather View, said: “Residents are at the heart of everything we do here at Heather View, and we always take the time to commemorate birthdays and anniversaries. In particular, we think it is important to involve friends and loved ones in such important events and to keep to any traditions residents may have around special days.
“Jessica and Joan had a really wonderful 100th birthday and everyone had a fun time joining in the celebrations.”
Both Jessica and Joan were born at the beginning of the Battle of the Somme and endured the bombings. They both got married and have children. They are now enjoying their time at Heather View and loved celebrating at their joint birthday party.
