Sherwood Grange teams up with the Stroke Association

Home news

Sherwood Grange is teaming up with the Stroke Association to host a free event on Thursday 22nd September from 14:00 to 16:00 to help Kingston Vale residents recognise the signs of a stroke.

There will also be advice and a range of resources available to help those in the different stages of recovery. John McGlone from the Stroke Association will be leading the event, which will also cover how to identify the signs of a Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) – commonly known as a mini stroke.

After the stroke awareness event, there will also be a chance for attendees to ask questions and share their own experiences, as well as an opportunity to talk to the team at Sherwood Grange and take a closer look around the care home.

Rick Mayne, home manager at Sherwood Grange, explained why he believed the stroke awareness event was vitally important. “Statistics from the Stroke Association show a stroke occurs approximately 52,000 times a year in the UK, which means around every three and a half minutes, someone in the UK is suffering from a stroke.

“With strokes being so prevalent, arming people with plenty of information can literally save lives. As so many people are caring for loved ones recovering from a stroke, access to expert advice and signposting to further ongoing support can make all the difference to quality of life and future wellbeing.

“We are very pleased to be working so closely with the Stroke Association on this free event and we look forward to welcoming people in Kingston Vale along to Sherwood Grange for what promises to be an incredibly informative, useful and engaging event.”
