Stir-up Sunday, which takes place on the last Sunday before advent, is traditionally the day when families and friends gather together to ‘stir-up’ their Christmas pudding and make a wish, leaving plenty of time for the pudding to mature before Christmas Day.
The activity provided a wonderful opportunity for residents to take part in the tradition which encompassed all the benefits of baking, including reminiscence, which is so important for older people, especially those living with dementia. The familiar scents and tastes triggered memories and nostalgic feelings from the past, conjuring up happy times spent with family and friends.
The activity created a calm and comforting environment for both residents and the team and residents are looking forward to tasting the results of their labour on Christmas day.
