Care UK nominated for ‘Best Care Home Group’

Company news

Care UK is celebrating having been nominated for Overall Best Care Home Group, while five care homes have also been shortlisted across a number of categories for national care awards.

The Care Home Awards recognise and reward excellence and innovation for UK care home management, operation and delivery.

Broadwater Lodge in Surrey has been nominated for Best Individual Care Home, having worked hard to develop new and interesting areas within the home to facilitate meaningful activities into every day. Team members create a life history book for each resident, which helps give insight into the resident’s past and present life. The team always ensures there are a variety of activities for residents to take part in – as well as including them in everyday tasks around the home.

Appleby House in Epsom is a finalist in the Best for Sporting, Social or Leisure Activities category, thanks to the impressive range of activities on offer to residents at the home. As well as providing regular planned activities, supported by the local community, the home has recently created a ‘wishing well’, where residents can submit their written wishes and suggestions for activities which the home strive to achieve.

The team at Priors House in Leamington Spa has been nominated for Best Nutrition, Food or Dining Experience thanks to its commitment to providing nutritional, wholesome food which residents enjoy. It was noted that the care home’s chefs have adopted a personalised approach to the food they prepare, tailoring dishes to residents’ personal tastes and dietary requirements. Residents also take part in baking classes and food demonstrations within the home.

Abney Court in Cheadle is a finalist in the Best Architecture and Interior Design category, thanks to its intuitive design, which has contributed to the overall wellbeing of residents. The purpose built 80-bed care home was specially designed to complement existing architecture and match its traditional setting, while still maintaining state-of-the-art facilities and care services.

Tor-Na-Dee care home in Milltimber is nominated in the Best Garden and Outdoor Space category, having nurtured its outdoor space to create an inspiring, calming and enjoyable environment for residents. The home’s garden was carefully designed to facilitate activity based care, and residents are all able to get involved in nurturing new plants in the greenhouse, working on the vegetable patch and caring for the home’s pet chickens.

Care UK has also been shortlisted in the Best Marketing Initiative category, for its Eating as we age guidebook. The 64 page booklet was developed to provide support for those facing some of the challenges posed by eating in later life, and was based on customer research. This was supported with informative videos, written content on subjects including nutrition and hydration, and events held at homes across the country to raise awareness within local communities.

Care UK is thrilled to be nominated for these awards and look forward to finding out the final results at the awards ceremony on Thursday 25 May.
