Wellmeadow Lodge scoops national award

A team member at Wellmeadow Lodge is celebrating after winning an award at a national ceremony.

Anna Chwalek, second chef at Wellmeadow Lodge, stood out among the competition and took home the Chef of the Year award. Anna was nominated for the award because of her passion, culinary flair and creativity in the kitchen.  

The Care UK Stars awards recognise and reward individual and team excellence across Care UK’s 119 care homes. The panel of judges were won over by Anna’s delicious dishes, including spicy pork fillet and a velvety coffee pudding. 

Commenting on the award win, Anna said: “I joined Wellmeadow Lodge in 2008 and I can safely say that I have never felt happier in my life, I love my job and nothing gives me more joy than cooking for the residents.”

Catherine Brannan, home manager at Wellmeadow Lodge, said: “It was a truly inspirational evening and it was brilliant that Anna’s talent for creating meals that both look and taste delicious has been recognised. She is always experimenting with flavours from around the globe and often invites residents to sample her dishes, shaping menus that everyone enjoys. 

“Anna is an asset to the home, she is full of warmth and her dishes are always made with a smile. Cooking is a passion that many of the resident’s share, so it is wonderful to have such a committed chef here at Wellmeadow Lodge.”
