Langley Oaks wins approval of national care inspectors

Home news

A national care watchdog has given Langley Oaks the seal of approval, with relatives and residents praising its caring and attentive team members.

The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report gave Langley Oaks an overall ‘good’ rating, following an unannounced inspection.

The report highlighted the welcoming atmosphere at the home, and detailed the level of care shown by every team member. Inspectors observed that team members spent time chatting with residents, asked how they were and regularly checked if they required any help. One resident commented: “I never want to leave this place. The team members are so charming. I adore them all”, and a relative added: “They couldn't be more welcoming if they tried.”

Team members were also found to have a good knowledge of residents’ likes and dislikes, and residents’ care records were regularly updated. During mealtimes, the inspectors observed team members suggesting meals to residents based on their personal preferences of what they liked to eat. One resident added: “I can make my own decisions. I know I don't always remember things but I can decide what I want.”

Residents were supported by team members to develop and maintain relationships that mattered to them. One resident explained to inspectors that they never got lonely because they had friends at the home that they could always chat with. A relative went on to explain that their relative had formed a friendship with another resident after they moved to the home, and that team members would always ensure that they could sit together.

It was also noted that residents were supported to participate in activities and events to meet their social and physical needs, as well as continue personal interests and hobbies. The inspectors found that the activities coordinator created a fun, friendly atmosphere, and planned activities based on residents’ interests. There was a wide range of activities for residents to take part in, including singing, seated dance and music sessions, and arts and crafts.

In addition to the activities schedule, the home regularly welcomed visitors who provided activities such as musical entertainment and therapeutic dog activity sessions. The home had also invested in a minibus, and residents were able to take part in outings such as shopping trips, pub lunches and visits to the seaside.

Jacqueline Johnson, home manager at Langley Oaks, said: “We strive to create a welcoming home from home feel at Langley Oaks, and I’m so pleased our efforts have been recognised by the CQC’s inspectors. Everyone here works incredibly hard to support residents with compassionate, person-centred care, and to be rated ‘good’ shows just how committed the team is to making a positive difference to resident’s lives each and every day.

“I’m extremely proud of our team and I would like to say thank you for their hard work and dedication, which I know is also greatly appreciated by residents and their families.”
