Students join in fun and activities at Ventress Hall

Students at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College recently approached us to ask if we would consider working with them to develop their skills on working with those living with dementia as part of their course work.  

So it was agreed that throughout the college term, the students will join us for indoor games, gardening sessions, singing and music sessions with the residents.

The response from residents and college students has been outstanding and brought lots of smiles, friendships and happy memories. The residents have been chatting to the students reminiscing about the war, home life, their families and the difference between the past and the present.

Students have gone home and talked to their families about how they love visiting the residents at Ventress Hall and look forward returning and maintaining a long-lasting relationship.  One resident – a lady, was feeling very withdrawn, but joined in the activities and absolutely loved them. She came out of the activity full of joy, smiling and commented that it was fantastic and wanted to know when the students were coming back - hoping they were coming back the next day.

All of us at Ventress Hall think it’s important to have fun, love and laughter no matter what age you are!
