Join Durham care homes for a royal celebration this Care Home Open Day

Four care homes in County Durham are inviting local people to visit the homes to join in celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

Church View, Ventress Hall, Stanley Park and Kings Court will be opening the doors to the public for free family-friendly events in celebration of Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.

On Friday 20th April, from 1pm-3pm, the team at Church View on Church Lane will be hosting an indoor street party to celebrate the Queen’s 92nd birthday, as well as arts and crafts workshops for people to make their own crowns. There will also be a traditional English buffet for visitors to enjoy and live music. 

Also on Friday 20th April, Stanley Park on Wear Road and Ventress Hall on Trinity Road, will be welcoming local people to enjoy traditional afternoon teas, live music with a ‘dress to impress’ dress-code. Stanley Park will also have a tombola, raffle and cake stalls which will be open to the public from 11am-4pm, and Ventress Hall will be opening its doors from 10.30am. 

From 3pm-6pm on Saturday 21st April, Kings Court on Market Place will have its homemade crowns at the ready, with entertainment including a royal sing-a-long, and traditional afternoon tea. 

Michelle Lloyd, home manager at Kings Court, said: “Here at Kings Court we believe that building relationships with the local community is incredibly important in enriching the lives of residents, which is why we’re excited to be throwing a royal celebration as part of Care Home Open Day this year.”

Judy Wray, home manager at Ventress Hall, added: “Care Home Open Day is a brilliant way of getting to know our neighbours even better, and supporting intergenerational relationships between residents and younger guests. We have plenty of activities and entertainment on offer for all the family, so we hope that the local community will join our celebrations.”
