St Vincent's House wins approval of national care inspectors

Home news

A national care watchdog has given St Vincent's House the seal of approval, with relatives and residents praising its caring and attentive team members.

The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report gave St Vincent’s House an overall ‘good’ rating, following an unannounced inspection.

The report praised the regular activities taking place at the home – from storytelling and musical sing-alongs, to community outings and coffee mornings, there is always something for residents to take part in. Reminiscence activities often take place at the home, including the circulation of a newspaper called the Daily Sparkle, which shares images and information from the past to encourage residents to share memories.

The report highlighted the home’s ‘Wishing Tree’, where residents are able to leave a note with their wishes – and the team then make them come true. So far, many of the residents’ wishes have been brought to life, including day trips to nearby attractions and a fun party based on a resident’s love of reggae, which everyone enjoyed.

It was reported that residents’ care profiles contain information that is important to them, allowing the team to tailor care to the individual’s unique needs. Each resident has a memory box outside their bedroom door, containing personal items such as family photographs, and the team ensure that every resident’s birthday is celebrated, and decorate their bedroom door with party balloons on the day.

The report praised the Care UK team for their kind and gentle attitude. One resident said, “The carers do a good job. They are always cheerful!” A resident’s relative commented: “I’m very happy with [my relative] living here – the team is wonderful.”
