Twenty-five Care UK team members paraded down the streets of London to show their support to London Pride as part of the care home group’s policy of equality and diversity.
Team members from homes in and around Greater London – Whitby Dene, The Burroughs, Oak House, Queen’s Court and Clara Court, as well as some members of Care UK’s central support teams – took part in the parade to show their support to the LGBT+ community.
Not only was this the first time that Care UK has taken part in the London Pride parade, but they’ve also just launched Care UK’s official LGBT+ Network, which aims to provide training and guidance to Care UK team members on LGBT+ related issues, as well as developing an open culture in every care home.
Eileen Coyle-Jones, regional director for Care UK’s West London homes, said: “Equality and diversity are key values that we share with London Pride. Here at Care UK, we are committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all, including employees, job applicants, residents, and visitors, so we’re proud to launch our official LGBT+ Network.
“I am thrilled that so many of our Care UK colleagues joined us for the parade, and I would like to thank Saad Baig and Hannah Lee for organising Care UK’s first ever Pride march.”
Saad Baig, home manager at the Burroughs, added: “London Pride always brings people together in a very special way, so it was fantastic to be a part of the celebrations and show our support. It was a wonderful day for everyone involved. I believe we were the only care home group represented at the parade as well.
“We are always striving to create a home-away-from-home feel at The Burroughs and all of our homes across London and the UK, and I’m sure that Care UK’s LGBT+ Network will help creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.”
