Winter wrapped up: Mountfitchet House residents knit for charity

Home news

With winter just around the corner, a group of warm-hearted Mountfitchet House residents are knitting for those less fortunate than themselves and encouraging others to support the initiative.

Residents and team members at Mountfitchet House are supporting local charity, Wrap Up London, by making hats and scarves and digging out their unwanted coats and blankets, which will be donated to those in need this winter.

Now in its 8th year, Wrap Up London supports the homeless, refugees, vulnerable children and adults living in poverty. The organisation relies on the generosity of the public to take their unwanted coats and warm clothing to drop off locations, and this year, Mountfitchet House is one of those collection points.

Local people can take their unwanted coats, hats, blankets and scarves to Mountfitchet House care home anytime between Monday 12th and Wednesday 14th November.

Mountfitchet House Knitting Club are going one step further, and have been busy working on their own hats and scarves which they will also be donating to the cause.

Allison Squires, home manager at Mountfitchet House, said “Our relationship with Wrap Up London started by accident a couple of years ago when we were looking to get rid of a stack of blankets. Since then, the team members, residents and loved ones have really got behind the organisation with this being our biggest year yet.

“It’s the first time we’ve signed up to be a collection point for the local area so we hope lots of people from Stansted come down and support this fantastic cause. We know there are lots of keen crafters in the local community, and we’re also encouraging people to join our knitting club in creating hats, scarves and blankets to donate.

“We hope to see lots of local people during the drop-off window and hope we can make a real difference to people’s lives this winter.”
