Get creative with local care homes this Care Home Open Day

Home news

Care homes in Durham and Darlington are inviting local people to join in their celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

On Friday 28th June, the team at Kings Court will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event from 2pm - 4pm, while Ventress Hall will be welcoming guests from 10am - 2pm.

The events celebrate Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.

This year’s theme celebrates the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.

Both homes have organised an art-themed party to celebrate the open day, with entertainment, activities and creative fun. Kings Court will be celebrating the day with arts and crafts activities, vintage afternoon tea, and a showcase of residents’ artwork.

At Ventress Hall, guests can look forward to live Morris dancing, a tap dance performance from Toe Tappers, arts sessions with local graffiti artist, Sarah Lewin, and ‘wacky faces’ arts with local college students. There will also be a showcase of residents’ artwork and the chance to decorate a wheelchair or Zimmer frame.

Mitch Lloyd, home manager at Kings Court, said: “The aim of this year’s Care Home Open Day is to demonstrate how care homes can be creative communities, and that is exactly what we plan to do. We can’t wait to open our doors to local people, including families, and have some fun together.”

Judy Wray, home manager at Ventress Hall, added:“We’re so excited to be hosting our Care Home Open Day event this June. We had a brilliant time when we did this last year so it made sense for us to open our doors to the local community again and show them just how much fun you can have in a care home.”
