Dorset care home nominated for TWO national awards

Home news

Kim Oliver, the Head Housekeeper at Care UK’s Ferndown Manor on Golf Links Road, has been nominated in the Housekeeping category in both the Caring UK Awards and the National Care Awards.

The Care Home Awards recognise and reward excellence and innovation for UK care home management, operation and delivery. The National Care Awards are the longest established annual awards are organised by social care’s leading publication, Caring Times.

Kim is a finalist in the ‘Quality in Housekeeping’ category in the Caring Home Awards, and ‘Housekeeper of the Year’ in the National Care Awards thanks to her above and beyond support to residents. She goes out of her way to chat and engage with residents, and regularly supports a blind resident around the garden, describing in detail the colours of the flowers and the insects she can see.

Kim also works with the lifestyle team to organise games and activities with residents. She acquired terracotta pots for an arts and crafts session, as well as sourcing a giant tenpin bowling set that has become a favourite among the residents.

Janet Lewis, home manager at Ferndown Manor, said: “Kim came from a hotel background but understands that this isn’t just a care home, it’s the residents’ home. She fully embraces that, and we are always receiving feedback about her dedication not just to the job, but to going out of her way to brighten residents’ days. We have our fingers crossed for her for both award ceremonies!”

Ferndown Manor, which features 75 ensuite bedrooms, is a state-of-the-art home which provides full-time residential, dementia and nursing care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema, hairdressing salon and café, and there is plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation.
