Covid-19 vaccinations rolled out at Edinburgh care homes

Home news

Team members and residents at two Edinburgh care homes have been celebrating after they became two of the first homes in the area to receive Covid-19 vaccinations for almost everyone living and working in the home.

Covid-19 vaccinations rolled out at Edinburgh care homesWith the support of the NHS Lothian vaccination team, the vast majority of residents and team members at Care UK’s Murrayside and Lauder Lodge were given the first dose of the vaccination.

One of the first in the queue for the vaccination was 100-year-old Ina Bickerton, from Murrayside, who said: “It was all over before I knew it - I didn’t feel a thing!”

Fran Long, Home Manager at Murrayside, said: “We are so pleased that residents and staff in our home have had the vaccination. I would like to offer my thanks to the NHS Lothian vaccination team. They were incredibly efficient, friendly, and made sure everything went smoothly, which was much appreciated.”

Nicole Anderson, Home Manager at Lauder Lodge, added: “This is the first step towards getting back to normal, and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick off the year. We’re looking forward to receiving our second dose of the vaccine as soon as we’re able.”

Care UK is keen to stress that the vaccine doesn’t provide full protection against the virus so its teams will continue to follow their stringent infection control measures including regular deep cleaning, regular testing, the use of masks and other PPE, social distancing, air purifiers and temperature checks to keep everyone safe.

Murrayside and Lauder Lodge are state-of-the-art care homes which provide full-time residential, nursing and dementia care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care homes have their very own cafés and hair salons, and there is plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation.
