Covid-19 vaccinations rolled out at Hailsham care home

Home news

Team members and residents at a Hailsham care home have been celebrating after they became one of the first homes in the area to receive Covid-19 vaccinations for almost everyone living and working in the home.

With the support of Dr Gray, of Quintin’s medical centre, Hailsham, the vast majority of residents and team members at Care UK’s Bowes House, on Battle Road, were given the first dose of the vaccination.

Covid-19 vaccinations rolled out at Hailsham care homeOne of the first in the queue for the vaccination was 91-year-old Beryl, who said: “I am so happy that the vaccine has arrived.”

Ryan Harris, Home Manager at Bowes House, said: “We were so pleased that residents in our home have had the vaccination. I would like to offer my thanks to the NHS team at Quintin’s medical centre.  They were incredibly efficient, friendly, and made sure everything went smoothly, which was much appreciated.

“This is the first step towards getting back to normal, and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick off the year. We’re looking forward to receiving our second dose of the vaccine as soon as we’re able.”

Care UK is keen to stress that the vaccine doesn’t provide full protection against the virus so its teams will continue to follow their stringent infection control measures including regular deep cleaning, regular testing, the use of masks and other PPE, social distancing, air purifiers and temperature checks to keep everyone safe.

Bowes House is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has it very own café, cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation. The home has a comprehensive activity programme, offering a mix of themed events and group activities.
