Covid-19 vaccinations rolled out at Whitstable care home

Team members and residents at a Whitstable care home have been celebrating after they became one of the first homes in the area to receive Covid-19 vaccinations for almost everyone living and working in the home.

With the support of Estuary View Medical Centre the vast majority of residents at Care UK’s Harrier Lodge, on Thanet Way, were given the first dose of the vaccination.

One of the first in the queue for the vaccination was 90-year-old Connie Smith, who said: “I’m really pleased I have it, as it keeps us all safe!”

Diane Collins, Home Manager at Harrier Lodge, said: “We were so pleased that residents in our home have had the vaccination. I would like to offer my thanks to the NHS team at Estuary View Medical Centre. They were incredibly efficient, friendly, and made sure everything went smoothly, which was much appreciated.  

“This is the first step towards getting back to normal, and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick off the year. We’re looking forward to receiving our second dose of the vaccine as soon as we’re able.”

Care UK is keen to stress that the vaccine doesn’t provide full protection against the virus so its teams will continue to follow their stringent infection control measures including regular deep cleaning, regular testing, the use of masks and other PPE, social distancing, air purifiers and temperature checks to keep everyone safe.

Harrier Lodge is a purpose-built care home which has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 65 older people in Whitstable, and incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities, including its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.
