A local care home hatched a wonderful plan to celebrate Easter.

The Care UK team at Buchanan Court, on Sudbury Hill, received three duck eggs from Incredible Eggs for residents to look after to celebrate Easter.

Having now hatched, the ducklings have met the residents and are very popular among visiting friends and families. Once they reach five days the ducklings, will be formally adopted by the Ana Tudorache, the Home Manager, and given a loving home to grow and run free.

The ducklings brought back many memories from residents’ younger years; one resident, Jean, remembers feeding the chickens potato peel with her mother during the war.

Ana Tudorache, said: “Everyone had a spring in their step after the eggs hatched here at Buchanan Court, and having ducklings in the care home has created a lot of excitement among residents and team members alike.

“Petting animals and being in their company have proven therapeutic benefits, particularly for those living with dementia, as it can reduce anxiety and release calming endorphins. You could see from the residents’ reactions just how engaged they were when given the opportunity to look after the eggs and get close to such lovely, fluffy ducklings once they hatched.

“I am very happy to be adopting these adorable baby ducklings and will make sure to bring them back to visit the residents.”

Buchanan Court has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as short-term respite.
