A tee-rific surprise! Care home surprises resident with video message from her favourite golfer

Home news

A local care home surprised a resident with an un-fore-gettable afternoon after she was left speechless by a surprise video message from her favourite golfer, Paul Lawrie.

With the Olympics and Paralympics continuing to grab the nation’s sporting spirit, one resident was transported back to her professional sporting days with a video message from golfer, Paul Lawrie. Margaret, who has played golf all over the world, including in Australia, was left speechless when Paul wished her a speedy recovery following a recent illness.

Margaret, who first began playing golf in her teens, shares a lifelong love of the sport, which saw her become Lady Captain at Cardross Golf Club and County Ladies Captain. Although Margaret has now retired her clubs and checked trousers, she remains an avid spectator of the sport and continues to wear her golf badges with pride.

Upon watching the video, Margaret said: “I just couldn’t believe that someone as famous as Paul Lawrie would take the time to send a message to me!”

Fran Long, Home Manager at Murrayside said: “Margaret is as equally chatty as she is sporty, but this surprise message from Paul Lawrie certainly left her speechless. Watching the smile and surprise beam across Margaret’s face as she was watching the video was as much a memorable moment for the team and residents as it was for her watching the video.

“We regularly create activities and experiences that build on residents’ past experiences and promote positive wellbeing. The whole team look forward to learning more about the wonderful passions and hobbies residents have enjoyed throughout their lives and creating imaginative activities that build on their talents.

“It goes without saying that Paul is Murrayside’s favourite golfer, by par! We invite him to join us at one of our garden parties very soon. In fact you could say he has an “Open” invitation!!”

Murrayside care home has been specially designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities, and has its own cinema, hair salon and café.
