A Ware care home has opened a new balcony to create a calming space for those living with dementia.
Care UK’s Snowdrop House, on Baldock Street, has officially opened the new balcony area, which has been designed and painted with the help of residents.
The new space offers another opportunity, additional to the home’s garden, for those living with dementia to spend more time outdoors. Time spent outdoors in a safe, secure environment, has proven beneficial in improving mood and lowering stress levels in those living with the condition.
Residents have helped to design and decorate the new balcony, and were delighted to attend a tropical party to officially declare the space open for use.
Clare Crow, Home Manager at Snowdrop House, added: “We’re thrilled to have officially opened our new dementia balcony.
“Here at Snowdrop House, we are always looking for new ways to support residents to lead fulfilling lives. We know just how much residents enjoy spending time outside in the garden, and we wanted to create another dedicated space on the dementia suite floor for residents to relax and enjoy times outdoors.
“Everyone had a wonderful time celebrating the launch, and we hope that will be the first of many enjoyable afternoons spent on the balcony.”
Snowdrop House delivers a full range of residential and nursing care for older people, including short-term respite care, and specialist care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
