Good cop - Stowmarket care home resident shares purls of wisdom

Highlighted home news

A Stowmarket care home resident has knitted over 200 teddies to help support children’s wellbeing.

94-year-old Peggy Rozier, a resident at Care UK’s Cedrus House, on Bittern Crescent, began knitting in her younger years, and is putting her skills to good use for ‘bobby buddies’ – a Suffolk based initiative that sees small teddies made to help police engage and comfort children in distress.

Having knitted over 200 teddies for children’s charities and hospitals over the years, Peggy was delighted to present her first ten bobby buddies to PC Stefan Henriksen and PCSO David Harvey, when they visited the home earlier this month.

Peggy said: “I find knitting very relaxing, and it’s something I really enjoy doing. I heard about Bobby Buddies through the lifestyle team at Cedrus House, as I was keen to use my skills to benefit others. I am planning on making as many as possible.”

Michelle Webster, Home Manager at Cedrus House, added: "Peggy is a fantastic knitter, and was delighted to find out about the Bobby Buddies initiative.

“Here at Cedrus House, we strive to support residents to lead fulfilling lifestyles. Helping residents to use their skills for good can be a fantastic way to provide older people with a sense of purpose. We know how much Peggy enjoys knitting, and how much she likes hearing how her teddies have helped people, which is why we were thrilled to welcome PC Henrikson and PCSO Harvey to thank her in person.”

PC Stefan Henriksen concluded: “We were thrilled to learn that Peggy had been knitting for Bobby Buddies, as they really do make a huge impact on the relationship we’re able to build with children in the area."

We’re keen for as many people as possible to support us with the initiative – we gave two of Peggy’s teddies to children the very same day as they’re incredibly popular. We’d encourage any local knitters to get involved and send their teddies to a local drop off point.PC Stefan Henriksen
