High rollers all round at Quorn care home

Highlighted home news

Residents put their cards on the table at a care home in Quorn when the home team surprised everyone with a pop-up casino.

The team at Care UK’s Lonsdale Mews, on Farley Way, went all-in for the casino event, with team members dressed as croupiers and residents given ‘Lonsdale Mews Casino Chips’ to try their luck.

On the day, the home was adorned with black and red décor to recreate a true Vegas atmosphere, while residents put on their glad rags and hoped to beat the house in casino staples, including roulette and blackjack. Vintage entertainer, Johnny Victory, helped to set the tone for the evening and gave residents an opportunity to tap their feet to some of their favourite songs.

To top it off, residents were treated to a special lunch of a variety of tasty mini classics, specially prepared by the Lonsdale Mews team.

Kate, a resident at Lonsdale Mews, said “I have never played roulette before, but it was great fun learning”,

Pat, another resident at the home, added: “I really enjoyed the entertainment, the singer was so good!”

Home Manager at Lonsdale Mews, Toby Sturgess, said: “We are always looking to plan interesting and exciting activities here at Lonsdale Mews, and after the success of our previous themed beach and fairground events, we knew we had to plan something equally as exciting and amazing for the residents!

“Our pop-up casino was a great opportunity for residents to reminisce about fun times of days gone by. It proved to be a real success, and you could see from residents’ reactions just how much they enjoyed playing the different games and trying to beat the house.

“The team went all in for this event, so it was fantastic to see the smiles on everyone’s faces.”

Lonsdale Mews offers full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite.
