Stowmarket care home hits the books with local school

Highlighted home news

A care home in Stowmarket teamed up with a local primary school to celebrate the art of storytelling.

Residents at Care UK’s Cedrus House, on Bittern Crescent, enjoyed listening to children from Chiltern Primary School read to them via video call to celebrate the joy of storytelling. The stories, also written by the children, were based around the theme of the Big Bad Wolf as part of their creative writing lessons.

95-year-old resident, Audrey, said: “We had a lovely time listening to the children read. They were brilliant and made me feel like a child again!”

Michell Webster, Home Manager at Cedrus House, added: “Intergenerational activity provides a fantastic way for older people to connect with others, and can also provide them with a sense of purpose when supporting younger children.

“Prior to the pandemic, we regularly welcomed local pupils into Cedrus House and were keen to ensure that restrictions didn’t stop us socialising with our younger friends. We always have a fantastic time together, and it was great to see this continue, even virtually.

“Everyone was very impressed by the stories, and we are looking forward to welcoming pupils into the home to read with residents in person as soon as we are able.”

Cedrus House is a modern care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable its residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space both in and outdoors for relaxation and recreation.
