The royal treatment – St Ives care home residents celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in style

Residents at a care home in St Ives have been enjoying a Platinum Jubilee celebration fit for a queen. 

Care UK’s Field Lodge, on London Road, has marked the Queen’s official 70-year milestone by hosting a special garden party for residents, complete with Union Jack bunting, music from Corey Lewis and an afternoon tea specially prepared by the home’s head chef.

Residents have also spent time reminiscing about their own memories of jubilee celebrations gone by, including 86-year-old Barbara Kidman, a huge royalist who has visited both Buckingham Palace and the Sandringham Estate. On her visits, she has met with Prince Charles, and has even seen the Queen on a walkaround. Barbara has fond memories of celebrating previous jubilees with her family at her local church. 

Barbara said: “The Queen is absolutely wonderful. I think we should let her retire, she has worked so hard over the years she deserves a rest!”
