From snakes to bearded dragons – creatures great and small visit local care home

Highlighted home news

Residents and the local community had an afternoon of fun when a host of weird and wonderful animals popped into a Sale care home.

The team at Care UK’s Oakfield Croft, on Oakfield, welcomed the people of Sale for a day of summer fun – complete with special guests, including a snake and even a bearded dragon.

Brought to the home by Boo Mobile Zoo, the animals are used to human contact and provide wellbeing sessions and educational opportunities for those they visit.

The summer open day also saw visitors and residents tapping their feet along to live music from singer Deborah McCormick, who sang some of the residents’ favourite tunes.

Daniel Cole, Home Manager at Oakfield Croft, said: “We had an absolute ball welcoming the local community of Sale into our home after so long. It was fantastic to see everybody together once again enjoying all that the day had to offer at our summer open day.

“Here at Oakfield Croft, we are always seeking new and exciting activities for residents to enjoy. Hosting an open day with the added element of animal therapy was a fantastic opportunity to bring everyone together.

“Animal therapy has proven to be incredibly beneficial for older people, as it can often prompt conversations and have a calming effect, so getting up close and personal with all the wonderful animals was a treat.

“We’d like to thank everybody for coming, especially our furry and four-legged friends!”

Oakfield Croft has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilling lives, while also promoting independence. The new care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities, as well as facilities like a cinema, coffee shop and hair salon.
