Picture this! Stroud care home residents recreate iconic paintings

Home news

Stroud care home residents put their posing skills to the test in celebration of World Photography Day by replicating world famous paintings.

Residents and team members at Care UK’s Scarlet House, on Westward Road, recreated famous paintings from well-known artists, including Johannes Vermeer, Frida Kahlo, Pablo Picasso and Vincent Van Gogh.

Everyone at the home got stuck in to dress up and provide a modern take on these iconic paintings dating back to as far as the 1600s. From hats to iconic monobrows, the residents and team were inspired with the materials they had to hand and started snapping creative shots.

On the day of this unique photo shoot, residents enjoyed admiring some of their favourite paintings and coming up with fun ways to recreate them. Some of the paintings included Vermeer’s The Girl with the Pearl Earring and Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam from the Sistine Chapel. As part of the photography day activities, the care team created pictures of the residents which they could shade to create pop art style-self-portraits.

Ruby, a resident at Scarlet House, said: “It was such a simple yet good idea, I found the whole day and activities great fun and my favourite part was being able to dress up!”

Lyndsey Dixon, Home Manager at Scarlet House, said: “The residents thoroughly enjoyed the day and being able to showcase their artistic talents. It was great to see residents getting stuck in and dressed up to play the part, inspiring lots of creativity here at Scarlet House. It was a pure joy to host this activity and get the creative juices flowing!

“We regularly encourage residents to take part in therapeutic activities which promote positive wellbeing. The whole team enjoyed learning about the wonderful experiences the residents have had throughout their lives and creating imaginative activities that build on their talents.”
