Quorn care home residents share pearls of wisdom with young students

Home news

Residents at a care home in Quorn have been passing on their advice to the younger generation as part of a nationwide initiative.

Residents at Care UK’s Care UK’s Lonsdale Mews, on Farley Way, have been sharing advice on different career paths with students studying Adult Social Care at Rawlins Academy as part of a new intergenerational project – Wisdom Booths.

The Wisdom Booths initiative sees Care UK homes across the UK share their advice with younger generations after a national survey found 88% of people nationwide are grateful for what they’ve been told by their elders and 56% will always rely on them for advice, regardless of how old they are.

The students visited the residents for the special advice sharing session, which included pearls of wisdom such as, resident Anna’s advice to “try and follow your dreams”.

Elise, another resident at Lonsdale Mews, added: “Don’t waste your time being shy, just do it.”

Talking about her own career path, resident Joan also added: “If you are given an opportunity, take it”.

Toby Sturgess, Home Manager at Lonsdale Mews, added: “It has been wonderful to see residents bonding with Rawlins Academy students after we hosted the career advice session.

“Although it has been a long time since residents studied at college, it’s been fantastic to draw upon the similarities, and also discuss how things have changed over the years – especially in terms of the career paths that are popular today. Residents loved hearing about the students’ plans and sharing their advice for entering the working world.

“The students also enjoyed learning about the wonderful careers residents have had throughout their lives and hearing about the skills and qualities needed for a successful working life.”
