Special guests celebrate ‘topping out’ at multi-million-pound new care home

Home news

Cardiff’s newest care home, set to open next year, has marked its latest construction milestone with the help of special guests.

The Care UK team and representatives from specialist design and build partners, Carter Lauren Construction, were joined by Councillor Graham Hinchey, The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, and his wife Anne Hinchey, The Lady Mayoress of Cardiff, who both placed the final tile on the roof of the new care home – which will be called  Llys Herbert – on Ty-Draw Road.

The purpose-built care home – which is expected to welcome the first residents in August 2023 – will provide full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 75 older people, with facilities including its own cinema, hair salon, café and landscaped gardens.

Angela Zuraw, Regional Director for Care UK, said: “As the latest addition to a growing portfolio of residential care homes, this highly impressive new care home represents a major investment for Care UK. When complete, the care home will boost the provision of quality residential care for up to 75 older people in Cardiff and beyond, as well as creating jobs for local people.

“We take a great pride in the build quality, layout and design of each individual care home – not least because these are all very important factors which can greatly impact the everyday experiences of those living in a care environment.

“As work continues in Cardiff, Care UK’s vison for the home is well on the way to being realised and we wanted to take the opportunity to acknowledge progress and celebrate the topping out with the Mayor and Mayoress of Cardiff and construction partners. We can’t wait to give Councillor Graham Hinchey and his wife the grand tour once the home is complete.”

Councillor Graham Hinchey said: “I was delighted to take part in this special topping out ceremony. This is an important milestone in the construction of a new care home in Cardiff, which will bring to our city an excellent purpose-built facility for local residents. Anne and I will be following its progress with interest and look forward to next year’s official opening.”

Stephen Barber, Site Manager for Carter Lauren Construction, added: “We are proud to be playing a part in the progress of the much-needed, high-quality new care home for the local area. The building work is progressing fantastically, and we are still on schedule to be open in Summer 2023.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new care home, is set to open in September next year. The spacious home will allow for plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities.
