“If you have a goal, stay focussed and disciplined” – Adderbury care home residents share pearls of wisdom with local community

Home news

Residents at a care home in Adderbury have been passing on their advice to the younger generation as part of a nationwide initiative.

Residents at Care UK’s Seccombe Court, on Gardner Way, have been sharing their advice on money and having a happy life as part of a new intergenerational project – Wisdom Booths.

The Wisdom Booths initiative sees Care UK homes share their advice with younger generations after a national survey found 88% of people in the UK are grateful for what they’ve been told by their elders and 56% will always rely on them for advice, regardless of how old they are.

The pearls of wisdom at Seccombe Court included 92-year-old resident Joan Nelson’s advice: “If you find yourself with a new challenge: do your homework and know what you can do with pride.”

She added: “If you have a goal, stay focussed and disciplined. If you can do it…Do it!”

Wojciech Kuczkowski, General Manager at Seccombe Court, said: “Team members and residents really enjoyed sharing their advice.

“Here at Seccombe Court, we understand the importance of taking encouraging residents to take part in reminiscence activities. The advice session presented residents with a real sense of purpose – using their memories to offer guidance to others. Drawing on previous experiences can help to boost confidence in older people, and provides an opportunity to re-live happy times, which can prompt conversation and positive emotions.

“Everyone really enjoyed taking part in the session and we hope the residents’ advice has given everyone some food for thought!”
