Care UK’s triple triumph at the Surrey Care Awards

Company news

Three Care UK homes are celebrating after winning awards at the Surrey Care Awards ceremony. The Surrey Care Awards recognise and celebrate the work of colleagues and organisations who provide high quality care in Surrey’s health and social care sector.

Jagpal Singh, General Manager at Liberham Lodge in Leatherhead, was awarded the Registered Manager of the Year award.  Appleby House in Epsom was named Care Home of the Year for 2023, and Jubilee House in Godalming took home the Nursing Home of the Year award.

Jagpal has been working as a General Manager for the 9 years and has led Liberham Lodge for the past two years. In this time, he has fostered an environment where every colleague is supported to progress in their career. A colleague said, “A unique attribute of Jagpal’s is his exceptional ability to motivate all colleagues at Liberham Lodge. His positive attitude towards the workplace has allowed our home to flourish.”

Jagpal also plays a pivotal role in assisting overseas colleagues to adapt to life in the UK. Having moved to the UK himself, he is passionate about supporting new colleagues in their transition to a new country as well as their new role. Whether that’s picking new colleagues up at the airport so that they see a friendly face, liaising with landlords, or even organising their first food shop, Jagpal is dedicated to ensuring that new colleagues feel like part of the Care UK family from the moment they arrive.

On winning the award, Jagpal said, “I was delighted to be named Registered Manager of the Year. I believe in compassionate leadership and always strive to empower my team to deliver the best possible care. I am thrilled to have been recognised for my work and hope to continue to build strong relationships with colleagues, residents, and relatives so that we can work together for the best possible delivery of care.”

Appleby House celebrates the idea that ‘Home is for Living’, and this is reflected in everything they do to enrich the lives of residents. For example, Appleby House is first home in the UK to be part of Art Explorer, a facility which allows virtual visits to real art galleries with real-time interaction with works on display. The team always look for creative ways to engage residents in new artistic activities such as ‘Fruit Art’ class, virtual art sessions via Zoom with school pupils and live music shows. The team continue to provide meaningful experiences for residents every day, making them a clear winner in the Care Home of the Year category.

Commenting on the accolade, Shona Bradbury, Home Manager at Appleby House said, “We are thrilled to have won Care Home of the Year at the Surrey Care Awards. Here at Appleby House, we work extremely hard to ensure residents have fulfilling lives. I am incredibly proud of the team for their consistent passion for delivering care, encouraging a variety of lifestyle activities, and incorporating the arts into everything we do.  I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to them – their work is greatly appreciated residents and their loved ones. Well done for this spectacular achievement, team!”

Jubilee House was recognised for their exceptional nursing team and going above and beyond the normal service requirements to make a positive impact on the care home. Nursing care is at the heart of Jubilee House. The care home has a team of 11 Registered General Nurses who specialises in providing top-quality care to residents with complex needs. They regularly review medications and work closely with doctors to ensure every resident gets comprehensive care. The care home is also passionate about end-of-life care and offers a stimulative environment to residents, especially when they are nearing the end-of-their life.

Malgo Wcislo, Home Manager at Jubilee House, said, “We’re incredibly proud of our team at Jubilee House. They meet residents’ needs, whilst simultaneously supporting them to be as independent as possible. The comfort, wellbeing and happiness of residents is our top priority and the team go above and beyond every single day. I’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge well done to our wonderful team – they make a huge impact on residents’ lives, and it’s heart-warming to see that their hard work has been recognised.”
