Care UK shortlisted for five national awards

November 24th 2020

Care UK is continuing its winning streak with the announcement that it has been shortlisted in five different categories of one of Britain’s best known care awards.

The National Care Awards (NCA) are the longest established annual awards for the care sector. They highlight excellence and reward those who work tirelessly to provide consistently outstanding care.

CA_2020_logo_finalistIn the category for the best care home group, Care UK’s submission highlights how it invests strongly in recruiting, developing and engaging the very best colleagues. It talks about how there is a dialogue with  team members through regular forums, the monthly award scheme and how every role has a mapped career pathway, so colleagues can see what’s possible from a career at Care UK from day one. As a result the annual colleague survey shows that 96 per cent of colleagues feel proud of the work they do.

Quality ratings also feature in the shortlisted submission the judges used. Care UK CQC inspection ratings continue to be the best of the five largest care providers and 86 per cent of its homes are ranked as ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding by the CQC.

The second shortlisting in the National Care Awards is for Care UK’s dementia expert Suzanne Mumford who is competing in the Care Leadership Category. Her approach to care and leadership not only focuses on the quality of life for residents living with dementia but also the impact it can have on their loved ones. Over the past few months, she has worked tirelessly to support care home colleagues with advice on activities and techniques to allow residents to live fulfilled, happy lives even with the restrictions Covid-19 has brought.

Alex Wendling, the Head Chef at Care UK’s Lennox House in Islington is a finalist in the Care Chef category.  He said: “I am incredibly proud to have been shortlisted for an NCA award. I am passionate about providing the very best dining experience for residents, from using high-quality ingredients to creating menus that are inventive and tasty.”

Up in Liverpool, Care UK’s Paisley Court care home team is eager to find out if they will win the award for Dignity and Respect Care Home of the Year.  This good-rated home enjoys a fantastic local reputation, built on a strong focus of training team members to work at the highest standard. Home Manager Amanda Ashton said: “We care for people with so many different types of dementia and other complex needs, that every resident needs a different approach. That takes knowledge and understanding, so regular training is vital.”

And the fifth shortlisting for Care UK is for a home that has been affected more than most by Covid-19. The team at Stanley Park care home in County Durham is a finalist in the Outstanding Care in a Crisis category. Christine Dudley, Home Manager at Stanley Park, said: “To be shortlisted for a National Care Award is testament to my team’s hard work and determination to ensure every resident is always treated with care, dignity and compassion and that has been even more important over the last year. Each day, my colleagues astound me with their positivity and hard-working attitude, and I’d like to say a huge thank you to each and every team member for their efforts in making Stanley Park a wonderful place to call home.”

The Stanley Park home team also won the hearts of the local community with gifts of flowers, chocolates and lots of messages of support throughout Wave 1 of the pandemic which really helped all of them at a challenging time.

The winners of all the awards will be announced at a virtual ceremony being held on Wednesday 25th November.
