Response to CQC Rating


We strongly believe the Inadequate rating from CQC is disproportionate to the areas within Harrier Lodge that required improvement.

This inspection was undertaken in August 2025.  Our robust and rigorous internal governance procedures had already highlighted a few areas that required focus and we were in the process of addressing these.  We have continued to work hard on these improvements and have seen good progress in areas such as communication, colleague training and workforce stability.

We don’t believe that CQC has followed their own procedures in coming to this rating and are disappointed with how our concerns on this matter have been received.  We are working through the avenues available to us to challenge this report – both within CQC, and if necessary, beyond.

As part of this process, we will be requesting an immediate reinspection to ensure the hard work and professionalism of our teams is recognised in a fairer evaluation of the care provided at Harrier Lodge.

Harrier Lodge has a score of 9.5 /10 on carehome.co.uk.  In our most recent resident satisfaction survey, residents told us they felt the home was a safe place to live (94%) and that they had access to meaningful activities (100%).  Our internal governance processes currently rate the home as Good.

Care UK is considered a high quality, low risk provider by CQC as supported by our quality ratings being 10% above the sector average.  As with all of our homes, Harrier Lodge is supported by a wide range of specialist experts spanning areas such as clinical and nursing practices, dementia care and health and safety.  Our priority as a team remains ensuring residents receive the best possible care.
