We believe that keeping busy and involved in daily life is the secret to maintaining a sense of independence.
Keeping busy and active is fundamental to the care we provide at Mills Meadow care home – what we call activity based care. When an older person is occupied with meaningful and enjoyable tasks they feel useful, independent and positive, and this wellbeing filters through into all aspects of their health.
So if a resident is missing the routine of carrying out household tasks, they’re welcome to help with laying the table or folding laundry. We’re always on hand to support them and to ensure that any task is well within their capabilities.
Likewise, if they want to be pampered, the team in our hair and beauty salon can help. The care home also has its own coffee shop and cinema, so residents can continue to enjoy a great lifestyle without leaving the comfort of Mills Meadow.
We also plan daily group and one-to-one activities, all designed around residents’ hobbies and interests. What we organise will be as unique as the people who live here, but may include sing-alongs, quizzes, tea dances or gardening.
Of course there’ll be times when a resident simply wants to sit and watch what’s going on, or maybe catch up with their favourite TV show. We will never push a person to do something if they are keen to have some quiet time.
A taste for good food
Our chef-led catering team pride themselves on producing delicious and nutritious meals made from fresh ingredients. All tastes, diets and cultural requirements are catered for, and the team love pulling out all the stops for those special events and occasions.
Residents and team alike at Mills Meadow love any excuse for a party, so birthdays and anniversaries involve a cake and balloons at least, and often a bigger celebration. Family and friends are, of course, welcome and we have plenty of space for private parties.
Health and wellbeing
We work very hard to develop strong links with local doctors and other healthcare providers so our residents can access the best care. Health and wellbeing professionals make regular visits to the home, and we’re happy to arrange appointments with other healthcare professionals whenever required.
