Donna Marsden

Home Manager

Donna Marsden

I have over 35 years of experience in the Health and Social Care sector, steadily advancing through various roles.

With more than 20 years as a Home Manager, I have led both Residential and Dementia care settings, including the successful commissioning of a care home from the ground up.

I am deeply passionate about delivering exceptional care to the people I support and their families, ensuring their time with us is both enjoyable and safe. I am dedicated to the smooth and efficient operation of Pear Tree House, consistently upholding the highest standards of care.

Among my proudest achievements is winning the Registered Care Home Manager award at the 2021 Great British Care Awards. I have also been recognised as a finalist in the Outstanding Contributions to Health and Social Care category.

Activities Lead

Previously, I was a wedding and funeral celebrant, but I have also completed dementia training.

To be activities lead, you need to be high energy and have a bubbly personality. It also helps a lot to be creative, as well as have good time management skills.

One of the things I love most about this role, is being able to see residents laughing and having a great time doing the activities we plan. It’s really important to listen to residents and to understand what they would like so we can then try to make it happen.

Another great part of my role is booking entertainers to come and visit. We even had figure skater, Dan Whiston switch on our Christmas lights one year, which was amazing. The residents were so delighted and he was brilliant.

When I’m not working, I love to cook, collect antiques and renovate houses.

Michelle Thompson

Front of House/Business Administrator

I have levels two and three in business administration and was previously an administrator in a different care home. In this role, being organised and having good communication skills are essential. It is also important to be approachable and compassionate to ensure residents, their families and colleagues feel supported in a professional way.

I take great pride in helping Pear Tree House run smoothly and efficiently and I’m proud to be part of a team that provides such high-quality care. It’s rewarding knowing that my work helps create a positive environment for everyone.

I enjoy being around people so the best part of the day for me is the time I spend interacting with residents and colleagues.

I have two grown-up children, and I like to spend my free time with them and my husband. I also enjoy going to the gym and reading.

Care Manager

Every day at Pear Tree House is different, but the most important part of what we do is ensuring that residents receive the highest quality care. I also think colleague wellbeing is really important too, as is maintaining good relationships with residents’ relatives.

Becoming care manager has been such a highlight for me. In this role you need to be positive, patient and understanding. You also need to lead by example. I always work to the very best of my ability and make sure everything is done to a high standard. A couple of years ago I was nominated for a care award which was really rewarding.

I am currently working towards achieving my NVQ level five in health and social care which will add to my knowledge and help me develop even further.

Outside of work, I enjoy socialising with friends and when I can, I like to travel abroad. I also spend lots of time with my two dogs.

Receptionist and Dementia Lead

I have worked in the care sector for over ten years and was previously a healthcare assistant. I have also been trained as a Dementia Friend.

Working in a care environment means you need to have compassion, patience and a genuine desire to help others. It is also essential to have excellent communication skills.

I love being able to help create a welcoming environment for residents, their families and colleagues. It’s important that everyone feels valued and supported to ensure dignity and respect.

I feel really proud to be a Dementia Friend and being able to help residents, while also supporting colleagues to develop their own understanding. What we do here really does make a positive difference to families and that’s incredibly rewarding.

When I am not at work, I spend time with family and friends. I also enjoy walking and watching football.

Head Housekeeper

I have 15 years’ experience working in hospitality and before joining Pear Tree House, I was the head housekeeper of a four-star hotel. I’m really proud to work in such a beautiful home and feel lucky to have such a good team to work with.

In this role, you need housekeeping expertise and leadership skills. You also need to be committed to residents’ wellbeing and happiness, making sure that everything is clean and comfortable. The best part of working at Pear Tree House is being in a friendly and welcoming environment, while also being able to help residents.

In my spare time, I enjoy walking, gardening and socialising with family and friends.
