Kristina Jacunskiene

Home Manager

Kristina Jacunskiene

I joined Care UK in 2014 because it has a reputation for having a clear vision of the high-quality care it aims to provide.

It also helps its people to do their best work. All of that was very similar to my own professional values.

I am a family-orientated person and, outside of work, love spending quality time with my loved ones. I am a keen traveler and love exploring foreign countries, where I learn and experience other cultures.

As a Home Manager, you need to be available for residents, their families and your colleagues at any time. It’s a big responsibility but also a huge privilege. My favourite part of the day is interacting with residents, being able to share their special moments and learn from their wisdom.

My ambition is to lead the Sherwood Grange team by example, by putting quality first in everything we do for residents and their families, and to be the care provider of choice in the community.

Paul Boyce
Customer Relations Manager

I’ve worked in business development in private healthcare, in hotel management and hospitality recruitment. While moving into the adult social care sector is quite a change for me, Care UK is a market-leading company. I liked its ethos of ‘fulfilling lives’ and I fancied learning new skills and challenging myself in a new environment.

I think my personality and skills lend themselves well to this role. You need to be an energetic ‘people’ person able to build strong, trusting relationships with residents, relatives and colleagues in the home. Having empathy and compassion is vital too because families are often under huge pressure when they get in touch for the first time. It’s up to me to allay their worries, give them the information they need and support them to make the right decision for them and their loved one.

The best part of the day is when I get to walk around the home and see what’s going on. It’s brilliant to see residents happy and doing lots of different activities. My day also involves liaising with families and building strong links with the community. It’s varied and always interesting!

Vanessa Allagain
Business Administrator

I joined Care UK looking for a new challenge and an opportunity to progress in a care environment.

An important part of my role as Business Administrator is interacting with visitors, and as such, having good customer service skills is essential. I believe someone in the role needs to be polite and friendly, always ready to listen, and have exceptional organisation skills.

Each day, I enjoy spending time and speaking with both residents and their families. I am always here to help with any queries they might have.

As well as supporting residents and families, it brings me pride to always support the Home Manager to the best of my abilities.

Elzbieta Walijewska
Lifestyle Lead

I joined Sherwood Grange as I was looking for somewhere to progress my career after earning my diploma in health and social care.

The most important part of being Lifestyle Lead is to support people to live fulfilling lives and enjoy meaningful activities. It’s a role well suited to people who are calm, collected, and have a great imagination.

I am proud to work for a company, and in a role, that allows me to support some of the more vulnerable members of society.

My favourite part of each day is hearing from residents that they are enjoying the day's activities and seeing the smiles on their faces.

Joan Ward
Head Chef

I started my career as an Assistant Chef and worked my way up to Catering Manager and now Head Chef. I joined Sherwood Grange because I was looking for a new challenge.

As a Head Chef you need patience – and a lot of it – but I love what I do and what I can achieve in this role. Creating meals that satisfy residents is really important.

Outside of work I love eating meals out and going for long drives.

Zainab Sillah
Senior Team Leader

Coming to work and making the residents happy and putting smiles on their faces is my favourite part of what I do.

In a Team Leader role, you need to be empathetic, charismatic and hardworking, and it’s important to have good leadership skills too. When I’m able to deliver care efficiently and make people around me happy, that makes me feel fulfilled in my role.

Joining Sherwood Grange has been the highlight of my career.

Ruweida Adan
Team Leader

I started at Care UK as a Carer and worked my way up to a Team Leader role. This is a very rewarding job where you feel as though you make a positive impact on residents’ lives.

My role is all about ensuring effective care planning by liaising with health professionals and management to provide quality care.

Being able to communicate effectively and show compassion to residents, as well as your own colleagues, are important qualities to have in this role. You also need to enjoy working with different people and personalities.

I look forward to having engaging conversations with residents every day and making them smile.

Nicola McLaren
Team Leader

I worked for Care UK previously before joining Sherwood Grange, so I knew they were a good provider to work for.

I love that I can make a difference to someone else’s life in this role. As a Team Leader, it’s important to be patient, calm, reassuring and responsive. You also need to be competent in care planning and to have a good eye for detail to spot when residents’ needs change.

Safeguarding residents and providing them with a meaningful lifestyle is the most important part of what I do. It’s fulfilling to make a difference in their lives.

Outside of work, I enjoy swimming, socialising with friends and doing activities with my kids.

Laura Parisi

I worked as a Care Assistant before becoming a Receptionist at Sherwood Grange. At Care UK, we have a nice environment to work in, and there are opportunities for development.

My role is to welcome everyone into the home. Getting to know relatives and seeing the smiles on residents’ faces is my favourite part of each day.

In this role, you need to be friendly, organised and supportive of colleagues and residents. When I can be helpful and provide advice and support to others, that makes me proud of what I do.

I enjoy cooking, taking care of my cats and husband, reading and socialising when I’m not working.

Caron Tikaram
Head Housekeeper

I have over 20 years of experience in housekeeping in a range of settings, including schools, hotels, and homes.

I joined Care UK as I was keen to challenge myself by working in a new environment and bring my knowledge and skills to this job role.

As Head Housekeeper, it is my job to ensure the home is always up to the correct standards and guide the team, making sure they follow relevant guidelines. It is a role that requires excellent organisation, attention to detail, and good communication skills.

My favourite part of each day working in the home is hearing positive feedback from residents, and knowing that you are helping to bring a smile to their faces.

Faisal Bakaluba

I joined Care UK because I was looking for a change in career from my job as a security guard.

I'm responsible for keeping the home safe and running. To do well in this role, you need to be adaptable, have strong interpersonal skills and work well in a team. It’s also important to be able to problem solve and to have good analytical skills and an ability to use tools.

In this role, I’ve been trained in first aid, fire awareness, moving and positioning and safeguarding.

When I solve a resident’s problem and put a smile on their face, I feel proud of what I do.
