Cake, coffee and carers

Home news

Carers in and around Crowborough who look after an older relative are invited to join us at Heather View care home on Friday 2nd December to celebrate Carers’ Rights Day.

Since Heather View opened in September, it has offered a free outreach service to people in the Crowborough community who are caring for an older person or someone with dementia.

Care UK’s Alison Hazel said: “Sometimes, when you are caring for a relative at home, you want to be able to get out and do fun things with them, but many people are worried that the effects of dementia on their loved one may cause awkward situations to arise.

“Heather View has wonderful facilities designed around a village setting, it has a cinema, café, shop, hairdresser and a restaurant and we wanted to be able to open these facilities up to carers and people with dementia within the community.”

Alison and the team created Friends of Heather View to help people in the area enjoy the facilities that are designed around the needs of people with dementia, allowing both the carer and their relative to have fun and relax.

Anyone wanting to use the facilities just needs to contact the home and become a member of Friends of Heather View. The service is completely free; new friends will be given a card and when they want to use the facilities, they just need to call ahead.

Alison said: “Carers’ Rights Day is a great idea. We will be handing out a booklet on carers’ rights and making a fuss of any Friend of Heather View who comes in for coffee and cake.  Family and friends who provide care do a wonderful job and Care UK is committed to trying to make their lives a little bit easier. We also want to help their relatives by providing a free, safe and stimulating environment when they want a trip out.”

Anyone wishing to join Friends of Heather View should telephone (01892) 653634.
