Weeks of planning followed by weeks of celebrations is how Ellesmere House is celebrating the Queen’s diamond jubilee.
Being in the Royal Borough, the jubilee and any royal occasions are very dear to the residents so we started at the end of April with a Tinkled Pink production featuring costumes and songs of the beginning of the Queen’s reign. (Pictures 1 and 2)
From the 3rd week in May we decorated the sitting and dining rooms with the residents, creating a real party atmosphere.
Every day the activity coordinator, the hostesses or the life skill support workers read some pages about the Queen’s life from the book offered by Mike Parish to the residents and there were repeated screenings of a DVD on the Queen’s diamond decades.
Twice a week, we had choir practice where the residents enjoyed songs remembering the period of the reign.
The art and craft activity sessions were also busy, for example, making crowns.
On Tuesday 5th June we held an “inside” street party with our chef preparing a special jubilee buffet.
Our celebrations did not end there however as two days later we staged a show, with the singer Lisa, especially to sing Jubilee related songs and offer the residents a karaoke experience.
And we will continue until the 28th of June when the residents are invited for a classical music concert and afternoon tea in the community.
