A party, a time capsule and 12 drummers drumming as Godalming home celebrates 20 years

Home news

Residents and the team at Care UK’s Broadwater Lodge, in Goldalming, have marked the home’s 20th anniversary with two days of celebrations.

On Tuesday, the home held a celebration for the residents, their relatives and their many friends in the Godalming community.

Home Manager Angela Bookham said: “Many of our residents have lived in the area and we very much encourage them to keep up their community ties, such as churches, clubs and friendships. We also have many groups who visit the home on a regular basis and they joined us for the party.”

Twenty years ago, the home was opened by Virginia Bottomley, the then Secretary of State for Health, who has sent a message of congratulations to the team for the big day.

During these festivities the home was joined by the Mayor of Waverley, to plant a fir tree in the grounds.

On Wednesday, (12/12/12) the residents and team gathered together to bury a time capsule in the grounds close to the newly-planted tree.

Angela said: “To mark the anniversary and the special date, the time capsule will be was delivered to the site by 12 drummers drumming. The drummers, who are all residents, marched around the house before going to the tree.”

The capsule contains a host of information, including the day’s local and national newspapers, a book of thoughts about 2012 created by the residents and team and lots of photographs.
