Residents at Forrester Court, Paddington, will play their part in August in challenging youngsters to develop new skills in arts and business when 12 teenagers from the Challenge Network visit the Care UK home to develop new activities.
Staying active and maintaining links with local people are vital features of life at Forrester Court. Keeping up hobbies and lifelong interests, and taking part in daily activities such as gardening, are all keys to independence, self-confidence and a feeling of wellbeing. New interests and experiences are encouraged too, and a variety of activities and outings are arranged regularly.
The Challenge Network, which aims to provide 15-17 year-olds with the chance to work with a range of people to develop new life skills, will run two sessions of activities, one focusing on drama and the other on enterprise. For instance, the group, working with residents, could come up with a performance and a board game or activity in the first session and then perform or test them out in the second session.
Beata Brzozowska, the home’s manager, said: “I am delighted that we can work with the group – residents really enjoy having different visitors and this should be both fun and stimulating for everyone. We try to get as involved as possible with local people, and this is a new opportunity for us.
“We are very lucky here to have excellent facilities for our residents and we are always glad to share those with visitors. We offer our residents really personalised care, closely tailored to their needs.”
Forrester Court, which has its own cinema and coffee shop, as well as a pamper room and overnight accommodation for relatives, now has three luxuriously appointed new premium rooms with their own ensuite shower rooms and flat screen TVs.
