Our day of help and support wins praise from carers

Home news

With the help of a national expert, we recently held a special event to give practical advice and support to people in the local community caring for loved ones with dementia and we were delighted at how much they felt the day had helped.

Around 20 people joined us throughout the sessions, including carers from the local area, health and social care professionals and we were delighted to welcome visitors from Age UK.

We were also joined for the day by James Wilson, who lectures in Mental Health at Southampton University and specialises in the effects of dementia and managing aggression. Our Customer Relations Manager Michael Krasser said: “We all knew that James was a national expert in the field, but we had no idea he was such a captivating speaker.

“He had us laughing out loud, as well as giving us lots of useful background information about dementia and practical advice on how to help loved ones with the condition.”

There was also a popular question and answer session with Care UK’s regional dementia nurse Rose Elliott, who shared many of the tips she has learnt during her years working with people with dementia as well as professionally researching the condition.

Michael said: “The feedback cards were very positive about the advice and information people received, as well as about our home, which looked beautiful, and the participants were able to enjoy refreshments in the gardens, which are looking beautiful.”
