Miniature horses visit Grangewood for coffee

Home news

On Wednesday 30th October, Grangewood care centre hosted a coffee morning with a slight twist. The residents and staff were joined by a pair of miniature American horses and visitors from the local neigh-borhood, including friends, family and members of the community. Visitors made a donation in exchange for refreshments and seeing the horses, which helped to raise money for the resident’s fund.

Two miniature ponies, Mr P and Wish, visited the home whilst clip-clopping along the corridors and visiting residents all around the home. One horse stayed downstairs, whilst the other ventured into the lift and paid a visit to residents on the first floor.

These little horses are a huge hit with the residents and have a very calming effect. Petting therapy is very interactive, uplifting and soothing, activity that has a positive impact on the residents and everyone involved.

Activities co-ordinator, Jackie Toolin, who organised the visitors said:

“This was a wonderful day, which put a smile on everyone’s face. The miniature horses raised the spirits of all the residents, staff and those who visited the home for the morning. It was a great talking point, which saw everyone interact with each other and the horses. Everyone from young children, to our eldest resident aged 102 enjoyed stroking the horses.”

Residents can expect another visit from the miniature horses later this month, but this time dressed up as reindeer!
