Ron and his friends win their wives’ hearts all over again on Valentine’s Day

Home news

Members at the Davers Club in Bury St Edmunds have tapped into their creative sides, and won their loved ones’ hearts all over again, with a little Valentine’s Day teamwork.

Four of the regular day club members made beautiful Valentine’s Day cards for their wives. And while they were at it, they also made some hanging hearts for the front door, so visitors were greeted with a festive and fun reminder of the special day.

Sue Atkins, manager of the Davers Club, was delighted at how the members initiated the activity and how it did wonders for their self-esteem. “It all started because we were talking about it being Valentine’s Day,” says Sue. “Then Bryan, John, Ron and Arthur decided that they wanted to make cards for their other halves.

“In no time at all we had a production line going with one of them cutting, one sticking, another cutting up string and another choosing colours. Everyone was having a great time, chatting away about their wives, their lives together and how much they loved them. It shows you how simple craft tasks can be extremely popular and very effective, even for reminisce. Everyone seemed to be on a high,” says Sue.

“What made it all the more special was that the gentlemen’s wives weren’t expecting a card as their husbands are no longer able to shop on their own. They thought their time for receiving cards was over. Doreen, the wife of Ron (pictured), who was one of the card makers, was so touched to receive his card that she sent a lovely message to our team thanking them for helping him to make such a fantastic Valentine’s Day card. She said it was a lovely surprise and something she will always treasure,” says Sue.

“Making these cards was something the members could do for themselves to show their appreciation for the people who love and care for them. It was really wonderful to give them the chance to do that, and to get such heartfelt feedback from their wives,” Sue concludes.
