A tarantula, gecko, African pygmy hedgehog and a python snake were among the animals presented to the residents at Cheviot Court.
The session included a ‘show and tell’ from Nicki at The Little Shop of Reptiles, which provided interesting facts on each of the individual animals, whilst residents who dared were able to experience handling some of them.
Norma Hogg, aged 84, faced her life-long fear of snakes as she bravely took on the challenge to hold a python. She commented “It felt totally different to what I had imagined – I found the visit very entertaining, even though I am scared of snakes!”
Many of the residents also joined in with handling the animals but it was the python that was a big hit.
Speaking about the activities, Erica Hutchinson commented “Many of the residents were brave and really got involved in this activity.”
But the animals from Little Shop of Reptiles were not the only unusual visitors to Cheviot Court this month, as the home was also delighted to welcome miniature pony Wish upon a Star accompanied by handlers from K&L Pony Therapy. Wish upon a Star, who was happy to get into the Easter spirit by donning some rabbit ears, got lots of attention from both staff and residents as she toured the home.
Erica said: “It’s great to bring in different things for the residents to experience and do. We’re really looking forward to seeing more animals here in the future.”
