Beech Hurst resident celebrates her 100th birthday

On 19th September, Beech Hurst care home resident Eileen Lilliott celebrated her 100th birthday where she has been a resident since March 2015.

She enjoyed the music from Emily Pearl, our regular entertainer and enjoyed tea and home-made cakes with other residents and members of staff who together decorated the dining room for her birthday celebration. Eileen’s daughter was also at the party along with family members and friends who visited the home on her special day. The highlight of the day was the arrival by special delivery of a card from the Queen.

Home manager, Soonita Shaw said “I am delighted with the efforts of the care team and residents to make Eileen’s 100th birthday such a special occasion.”

Eileen was born in 1915 in Leytonstone, London. Sadly, her mother, Edith died when Eileen was just eight years old.  Her father Walter married again and Eileen has a half-brother, Frank who is sixteen years younger.

As a young child, Eileen always liked to play outside in the garden with her collection of dolls. She left school at the age of 14 as a children’s Nanny.

During the Second World War, Eileen was a telephonist in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force at a posting in Yeovil.  She is proud of her contribution during the war, and very much enjoyed her time as a member of the WAAFs.

Eileen was married and has a daughter, Rosamund, a granddaughter, Amanda and a grandson, Russell.  She also has a great-granddaughter called Ella.

Eileen says her secret to a long life is to be happy, get on with every one and have a glass of milk every day.
