The DMRC Benevolent Fund enables special goods and services for the patients whilst they undertake their rehabilitation programme. Money raised will also provide patients the opportunity to engage in social activities over the coming weeks. Socialising outside of Headley Court allows patients to forget about their injuries and rehabilitation for a few hours. The benefits are enormous, providing a much needed boost and increasing motivation during the difficult and lengthy period of rehabilitation.
Kenneth Williamson, a resident said he “I feel very proud to be here and I think we should raise money for such an important concern” Kenneth spoke about his time during World War II, and talked about sadder times when he fought in Arnhem and they had lost to the Germans. Kenneth spoke about not eating or drinking for 9 days before he was pulled out of the river Rhine by a Canadian solider. Kenneth said he was never so happy to hear a Canadian accent.
Shona Bradbury, home manager said “We wanted to raise money to recognise the amazing bravery of servicemen and women. To let them know we appreciate what they do to protect our freedom. Seeing how proud Kenneth Williamson was and being treated to refreshments and a tour will be one of my most memorable highlights of my career.”
Appleby House would like to give a very special thanks to Seafare in Horton, Epsom who very kindly gave us a considerable discount to help raise more money for Headley Court.
